Elkhorn Lake House Kitchen

Creating an Open Concept Kitchen

Before Photos

When we first toured this lake house in Elkhorn, Wisconsin for a whole house remodeling project, we noticed that the layout felt incredibly closed-off and hard to navigate. Because the home is nestled between a rare bird sanctuary and Lauderdale Lakes, we wanted the renovation to give the new homeowners as many opportunities to take in the gorgeous outdoor views as possible.

A FULLY-RENOVATED KITCHEN

During the kitchen renovation, we opened up the kitchen to the main living area, using an oversized custom kitchen island as a natural separator that doesn’t detract from the view. In the kitchen, we included beautiful two-tone wood cabinetry with ample storage and used matte black fixtures and hardware to create a dramatic contrast. We remodeled the space to include a built-in pantry and decorative corner shelving to reduce countertop clutter. A Kohler cast iron single bowl sink with quartz countertops are accentuated by an ornate ceramic mosaic backsplash. We finished the kitchen remodel with high-end appliances including a Thermador 36” wide dual range and dishwasher, a Bosh 3 door 21 Cubic Ft. refrigerator, and a sharp 24” microwave drawer built into the 7 ft. kitchen island.

A BRIGHT GREAT ROOM

To bring natural light into the home, we added new windows with matte black trim above the sink that mirror a new full wall of windows and glass French doors that open up to the main level balcony facing the lake. Hardwood floors, classic crown molding, and industrial light features come together to create a chic and inviting remodeled great room with a 180 degree view of the bay.

Small touches like built in floating shelves, a custom open staircase with modern black railing and banister set, and a custom entertainment console pull this renovated open concept floor plan together, creating a cohesive and welcoming space.
